More to explore as popular spring and summer buses return to East Riding

Step on to two special buses this spring and summer to explore some of the East Riding’s most beautiful scenery. 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has commissioned two bus services for 2026 – the Wolds Explorer and the Spurn Explorer – which are returning for a third year thanks to popular demand. 

The services take passengers into the heart of the Wolds countryside and to the wildlife haven of Spurn Point Nature Reserve on the Holderness coast. 

The buses are now running on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, operated by East Yorkshire Buses and cost £3 for a single fare. 

Both services have been funded by the council using Government money from the Department for Transport for bus service improvement. 

Councillor Nick Coultish, the council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure, tourism and planning, said “These bus services give residents and visitors a wonderful chance to travel with ease and explore some of the most attractive places in the East Riding. 

“They offer fantastic value for money, thanks to the national fare cap, and taking a bus rather than a car helps to protect our rural environment.” 

Wolds Explorer 

The Wolds Explorer (Service 200) gives residents, visitors, walkers and sightseers access to some of the most stunning landscapes and vibrant villages in the Yorkshire Wolds, where they can wander the Wolds Way National Trail or enjoy meals and drinks in the village pubs and cafes along on the route. 

The bus travels between Pocklington and Thixendale, serving the villages of Millington, Huggate and Fridaythorpe, with three services a day in each direction on Saturdays and two on Sundays. 

There are excellent connections with services X45/X46 from York and Hull and a full day out in the Yorkshire Wolds can be easily accessed from anywhere along the frequent A1079 bus corridor. Show your X45 or X46 single ticket and you can travel free on the Wolds Explorer. 

The Wolds Explorer runs until Saturday 26 September. 

Spurn Explorer 

The council has partnered with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to run the Spurn Explorer, letting passengers experience the sights of Spurn Point, enjoy shoreline walks or watch birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. 

Visitors can explore the Spurn lighthouse for breathtaking views and look for seals, seabirds and porpoise along three miles of beautiful Yorkshire coastline. 

The Spurn Explorer (Service 72) runs on Saturdays between Hull, Patrington, and the Spurn Discovery Centre at Kilnsea. 

There is a direct return service between Hull Interchange and Kilnsea. Three other services operate from Patrington with good connections to the X7/75 bus services from Hull.   

On Sundays the Spurn Explorer (Service 71) runs from Withernsea to the Spurn Discovery Centre, with four services in each direction. 

The Spurn Explorer runs until Sunday 1 November.
