New programme to improve pathways into adult social care careers coming to Bridlington

People in Bridlington will have the opportunity to explore careers in adult social care thanks to a new programme designed to help residents gain skills, experience and employment in the sector.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is working in partnership with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) to deliver the Widening Access Demonstrator (WAD) programme which opens opportunities for people to explore and access careers within the adult social care sector.

Bridlington has been chosen as a focus area for the programme, with local events, training opportunities and a dedicated recruitment fair planned to connect residents with employers.

The recruitment fair will take place on Wednesday, 8 July, 10am to 12pm at Crown Community Building, Quay Road, Bridlington, YO16 4LY.

At the heart of the programme is an approach to career development known as SEA which stands for sessions, experience and application.

• Sessions are interactive learning opportunities introducing adult social care, its values, job roles and essential skills, helping individuals build confidence and understanding.
• Experience provides opportunities such as shadowing staff and offering placements that give practical experience in services and bite-sized learning, so that people can get a feel for the role and the communities they will work with. 
• Application means tailored support with CV writing, job applications and interview preparation to help individuals step into employment or go for progression in their role.

These pathways are closely aligned with the Choose Care campaign and will connect to live job opportunities across the sector, with the aim to improve local interest and provide residents with access to advice and support about employment in the sector.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adults, health and care at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Widening Access Demonstrator (WAD) programme is a fantastic opportunity for Bridlington, helping people of all ages discover the wide range of rewarding careers available in adult social care. By working closely with our partners, we are creating clear routes into employment through training, experience and tailored support.

“Whether you’re leaving education, returning to work, looking for a career change or wanting to progress in the sector, this programme will help people take those first steps into what can be a rewarding and fulfilling career.”
