Frightful family fun coming to Sewerby Hall, Gardens and Zoo this October

Join Sewerby Hall, Gardens and Zoo this October for Halloween themed family friendly activities taking place throughout the school holidays.

From Saturday, 24 October to Sunday, 1 November, visitors can enjoy spooky magic shows, autumnal crafting, face painting, and interactive storytelling adventures with Rusticus Theatre, including spell casting, wand combat and broomstick flying.

Rusticus bring the outdoors to life with costume themed, interactive storytelling, creating an exhilarating environment for children to learn and explore their imaginations.

Sewerby’s walled gardens will be transformed with eerie decorations with plenty of live entertainment, seasonal crafts, and immersive outdoor experiences.

The Halloween programme of events includes:

  • Halloween Spooky Gardens: Visitors can explore the walled gardens to discover unearthly characters.

Saturday, 24 October – Sunday, 1 November, 10am – 3pm.

  • Love Exploring: Halloween Dance Trail. Discover more about Halloween with our spooky dancers and their Halloween Quiz.

Saturday, 24 October – Sunday, 1 November, 10am – 3pm.

  • Spooky Magic Shows and Face Painting: Come and see Mr Bubbles’ new spooky magic show.

Saturday, 24 October and Wednesday, 28 October

Shows times in the Orangery: 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

Face painting by professional face painter (£3 additional charge) will be at the front of the Orangery from 11am – 4pm.

  • Wildcats Deep Dark Woods: Visitors can create their own crafted wild beast.

Sunday, 25 October, 11am – 3pm.

Wildcats Block Monsters: Create a creepy monster using natural resources.

Friday, 30n October, 11am – 3pm.

  • Rusticus Wizarding Adventures: These three experiences offer Halloween-themed playful challenges through engaging sessions around the Sewerby grounds.

Rusticus: Spell Casting! Monday, 26 October

Rusticus: Wand Combat! Tuesday, 27 October

Rusticus: Broomstick Flying! Thursday, 29 October and Saturday, 31 October.

Performances take place 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm and last approx. 45 minutes.

  • Zoo Activity: Meet the Hoof Stock. Meet Sewerby’s donkeys, llamas and goats, get up close with them and learn all about their fascinating lives.

Wednesday, 28 October. Session times are 11.30am – 12noon. No need to book, just turn up.

Councillor Nick Coultish, Cabinet member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘’Halloween at Sewerby Halls, Gardens and Zoo makes for an unforgettable day out for the whole family. The team have brought together an exciting programme of engaging events that are suitable for the whole family and are sure to make for a memorable half-term.’’

Sewerby House will be open weekends and during the October half term 11.30am – 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

The zoo is open daily 10am – 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

The walled gardens are open daily 9.30am – 3.30pm with last admission at 3pm.

Standard admission charges apply during this period, and it is cheaper to book online.

Many of the events takes place outdoor so please dress for the weather. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
