Kids Go Wild

Kids Go Wild autumn adventures for children this October

Popular Kids Go Wild events return to the East Riding this autumn, giving families the opportunity to explore fun, outdoor activities.

Run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s local nature reserve team, the events provide interactive, creative experiences which centre around getting to know the great outdoors and local wildlife.

A special Autumn Adventures event is being held on Tuesday, 27 October at the Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve, Hessle (HU13 0HB). Children and their families are invited to join the team on the reserve to help wildlife by building hibernation homes in the woods using logs, leaves, moss, sticks and twigs.

The hibernation homes show children how to give local wildlife a helping hand as the homes create safe refuges over the winter for insects, amphibians and small mammals. Attendees are also invited to take part in an autumn scavenger hunt, searching for fruits, seeds and colourful leaves.

On Thursday, 29 October the Autumn Adventures event is also being held at Eastrington Ponds Local Nature Reserve (near Howden, DN14 7PL).

The events are suitable for children and young people accompanied by an adult. Tickets for children are priced at £5 (under 3 years old are free) and accompanying adults do not need a ticket. All events run from 10am to 12pm, or, 1.30 to 3.30pm.

Children under 3 years old do not need a ticket and are welcome to attend if part of a family with older children, but please note these events are not designed for very young children aged under 3.

Councillor Nick Coultish, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ‘’Our local nature reserve team are bringing back the popular Kids Go Wild events this autumn, giving children and their families the chance to explore the outdoors, get to know their local nature and wildlife and get stuck into practical, engaging activities. We look forward to seeing families come along and take part.’’
