East Yorkshire farmers supported to diversify, to meet growing demand for rural tourism

Farms across East Yorkshire are being supported to diversify their incomes, by Invest East Yorkshire’s Business Support Services team.

The team, part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, are assisting farms to help bring more visitors to the region and strengthen the future of rural communities.

This includes the Wolds Project, near Driffield, which has created sustainably built cabins that help visitors reconnect with nature while learning more about modern farming practices.

Similarly, Bainton Burrows have diversified into a luxury glamping destination, welcoming its first guests and creating additional visitor accommodation in the East Riding.

In addition, Holborn Hideaways in Barmby Moor has created a new tourism business transforming underused farmland into a rural retreat while providing a flexible business that supports family life.

Together, the businesses are increasing the supply of rural accommodation across the area, while encouraging visitors to stay longer, explore more of the region and support local attractions, hospitality businesses and independent retailers.

Invest East Yorkshire’s Business Support Services team supported the businesses to develop business plans, explore opportunities and access advice, that helped turn their ideas into successful ventures.

Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader, said: ““We’re proud to support farming communities in our region. Farm diversification plays an important role in supporting the long-term sustainability of rural businesses across East Yorkshire.
