Psychological Therapies Hull East Yorks
Psychological Therapies helping you though life’s difficult times.
Life can be full of stressors. Some of us may find ourselves feeling like we’re struggling with life but can’t quite put our finger on why, others may have a diagnosed mental health condition.
Clinical Psychology is the branch of psychology concerned with the assessment and treatment of mental illness and behavioural difficulties.
As Clinical Psychologists, we are trained to work in the medical sector with an understanding of a number of mental health diagnoses. At Psychological Therapies in Hull and East Yorkshire our priority is working with the individual, in a way that works for them. We understand diagnoses and labels, but take a focus on working with the symptoms and the impact they have on your life.
Going to therapy can be a daunting experience. We may wonder ‘What are they going to ask me?’, ‘Will they judge me?’, ‘What if I can’t cope with the thoughts and feelings that I may have as a result of therapy?’. A ‘good’ therapist should be aware of these and other anxieties and be able to discuss them with you. It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist and can build a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and supported. Research has shown that 40% of the changes achieved through therapy is as a result of a good therapeutic relationship.
Because of this, Psychological Therapies in Hull and East Yorkshire have a strong focus on therapy being person centred. It should meet your needs. It should feel accessible and should challenge your thinking in a way that promotes positivity, rather than anxiety or further distress. This isn’t to say that therapy should be easy – if it feels easy then it may be that your therapist and you are only working on the areas which are most obvious and not at the root of your difficulties.
As a result of our person-centred approach, and clinical psychology expertise we are able to work using a number of different therapeutic models including
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Third-wave Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques,
Mindfulness
Cognitive Analytic Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Systemic Therapy
Psychodynamic Therapy
Interpersonal Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
We can help you with
Stress
Around one third of our life is spent at work. That is a hugely significant amount of time if being in that environment causes you distress, and it’s a problem for many people with the Health and Safety Executive advising that 11.7 million working days are lost due to work related stress.
Mental Health
As Clinical Psychologists, we are trained to work in the medical sector with an understanding of a number of mental health diagnoses. We understand diagnoses and labels, but take a focus on working with the symptoms and the impact they have on your life.
Children’s Behavioural Difficulties
We have vast experience in working with children and adolescents (0-18), including those with developmental difficulties or other diagnoses such as autism or ADHD. We are also experienced in working with those children with traumatic histories. When working with children is important to consider the system around them, they are often reliant upon a number of individuals in their lives to support them with their mental health needs, such as parents, school staff, other professionals involved (such as speech and language therapists) and extended family such as siblings or grandparents. As a result, we are able to provide support within the systems either through family therapy, attendance at meetings, or submission of reports to contribute to documents such as your child’s educational healthcare plan (EHCP).
If you feel that your child would benefit from psychological input, and would like to discuss the options available contact us here.
