South Landing 'Fiver' Beach Walk

Bringing Bridlington Information to You

South Landing 'Fiver' Beach Walk

From the car park at Danes Dyke country park, walk along the exit road past the derelict Home Farm to a public footpath on the right.

The path leads along a field edge to a stile before crossing a field between fences to a kissing gate.

Turn right into Water Lane to pass the Church of St Oswald in Lily Lane. Spot the unusual weather vane above the church tower.

At South Sea Road turn right, to South Landing (cafe and toilets open in season).

Diagonally across the grass is a gate leading to the nature trail with its sculpture features. Follow the path through the South Sea Plantation area to the cliff top by the "Flamborough Swords" feature. Return a few paces and climb down the steep steps to South Landing.

Now you have to climb the opposite 'staircase' near the lifeboat house to reach the cliff top again.

After you have regained your breath there are two more stepped areas to cross before reaching the seaward end of Danes Dyke and more steps down and up again.

From here it's a straightforward walk to follow the coastal path to Sewerby. If you prefer, this latter section can be walked along the rocks and beach at low tide. Please make sure you check the tide times before setting out (see the link shown in the useful information pages).

Head towards Sewerby Hall along the tarmac cliff railway path and, just before the Sewerby Hall admission kiosk, turn right to walk beside the low wall (a 'ha-ha', originally built to keep unwanted livestock from damaging the lawns).

At the far end of the cricket ground take the path through the woodland and across the golf course (shown on the map as Danes Dyke House) to reach the Dyke.

Follow the path to the left and cross the bridge over the ravine.

Climb the concrete steps to arrive back at the start.
